Goechala Trekking in Sikim.
Day 01: Early morning Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapurairport or Delhi to Bagdogra Airport and drive to Darjeeling (7100 Ft), the “Queen of the hill stations” , its name derived from “Dorje-Line” which means the place of “Dorje”, the mystic thunderbolt. Covering a distance of 88 kms over a drive of 3.5 hrs along winding roads ,its an experience of unforgettable beauty. Check into hotel
Day 02:Start the day at 4am with an early morning trip to Tiger Hill (7800 Ft) to catch the sunriseAdvance Everest base camp trek in Tibet from behind the majestic Kunchenjunga range. On the way back visit the Ghoom Monastery & Batasia Loop. Back to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast Transfer to Yuksom (1760m) the Land of the Pristine and unspoilt natural beauty – Sikkim , with alpine landscapes and thick luxuriant forests, rivers in torrent and peaceful lakes, a drive of approx 6 hours. After resting a while a warm up trek to Dubdi Monastery. Night halt at Hotel Yuksom.
Day 03:Start the trek from Yuksom to Bakhim (2673m). Trek from Yuksum) time taken approx. 4 hrs. Walk through dense forest of pine and oak After crossing river PrekChu it is straight 70 degree uphill climb this is the toughest stage in the entire. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Day 04:Trek from Bakhim toTshoka . Passes through magnolia and rhododendron trees. Tshoka is a small village. Overnight stay in tent or a lodge
Day 05:Trek from Tshoka to Dzongri (4020m). This is still a steep climb of approx 5hrs through dense forest of rhododendrons of which there are over 400 flowering species. Reach Phethang for a break. After Phethang still further up, reach Dzongri where the Vegetation is thin and we tend to find only small bushes and shrubs. Overnight stay in a tent or trekkers huts.
Day 06:Get acclimatized to the dizzing heights & take a trek to a place called Deorali Dara from where you get a magnificent view of mountains. Back to Dzongri.. Overnight stay in a tent or trekkers huts.
Day 07:Trek from Dzongri to Thansing (3930m). Trek from Dzongri to Thansing takes about approx 4hrs after walking through the bushes and hedges. At first its walking on the plain table land & then after a few hours, a rapid decent down the river PrekChu. On the way one can view almost all the ranges above all Mt Pandin looks beautiful. In Thansing besides the govt hut its all barren here is no civilization. Overnight stay in a tent or trekkers huts. Trek from Thansing to Lamune (4000m). The trek from Thansing to Lamune takes about approx 3hrs its just a easy trek through thin vegetation.. Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 08:Trek from Samiti Lake to Goechala (4940 m) & back to Thansing. Trek from Samiti to Goechala & back to Thansing takes about approx 10hrs, the trek starts with easy grading. We come across Zemathang which means ( sand- plainland) the trail goes through moraines before reaching Goechala one can view green lake formed right below the path deep down the hill. Night Halt at Thansing.
Day 09:Trek from Thansing to Tsokha. A trek of about 8 hrs, its completely down hill. Night Halt at Tsokha.
Day 10:Trek from Tsokha to Yuksom > Return to the base camp to reach there around noon time. Rest, a while & after lunch drive to Pelling. Night halt at hotel, Pelling.
Day 11: After breakfast visit The Pemayangtse Monastery (7021 Ft), 2.5 kms from Pelling. Built during the late 17th century, it is one of the oldest & most important monasteries of the Nyingmapa order of Buddhism in Sikkim. Even today, it is only the monks of this monastery who enjoy the title of ‘Tasang’ or pure monks. The monastery follows the Mindroling tradition & has 108 monks. The main attraction of the monastery is the wooden replica of Zangdog Palri , the celestial abode of Guru Padmasambhava, built by Serdup L Dorje Rinpoche in 1971, then to the Rabdentse Ruins – the second capital of the erstwhile King of Sikkim till 1814 A.D. This is also very close to the Pemyangtse Monastery, a 30mins walk from the main road. The scenic view from the top of the ruins scanning across the deep valley, to the mystic heights of the Khanchenjunga range is something to be cherished & etched in memory. Onwards to Kalimpong (4000 Ft) via Jorethang, a drive of 3.5 to 4 hrs covering 100kms. Also called the garden of flowers, this town has almost everything- scenic beauty, flowers, greenery, waters, mists, clouds etc..
Check into “The Silver Oaks”, the only 4-star luxury hotel in Kalimpong, just 2 minutes from the Mall. Built originally in 1930, the present day building has been spruced up with modern amenities housing 23 fully equipped rooms, multicuisine restaurant etc.. The hotel has more glass than walls which allows the breathtaking beauty of the great outdoors to fill the indoors. If you are in Kalimpong on a Wednesday/Saturday, walk down to the “Haat Bazaar” or local market – a place where villagers from all nearby villages come & sell/display their wares (right from handicrafts to food items). The market starts early morning by 6-7am & is on till 4pm. This is a unique extravaganza typical to rural regions, a cultural experience you will never forget.
Evening at leisure with a visit to the market.where you do some curio shopping, buy some Kalimpong Cheese & lollypops of Swiss technology from “Larks” or just take a walk thru the market . Night halt at The Silver Oaks, Kalimpong.
Day 12: Leave the hotel by 9.30 am to reach Melli by 9.45am, a drive of 15kms, the starting point of the rafting on the Teesta River. The white water gushing past, a breath of fresh air, freezing water below, jutting rocks/boulders, all of it sets the Adrenalin soaring. It’s a ride you will never forget. Rafting a stretch of 11 kms over a period of 1.5 hrs, a hot cup of tea greets you at the 29th Mile. Savour the tea with some hot snacks, change into dry clothes. Back to Kalimpong, by lunch.
Overnight at Kalimpong
Day 13: Drive from Kalimpong to Bhadrapur to connect the flight for Kathmandu. Check in to hotel.
Day 14: Departure to Airport.
